Early Passion for Art
Born on September 14, 1979, in Miami Beach, Florida, Ray developed a strong passion for art at an early age. By his early teens, he was already accepting commissions for paintings, drawings, and airbrush murals for local businesses and friends.
Education & Creative Foundation
Determined to build a career rooted in creativity, Ray enrolled at the Art Institute in downtown Miami at the age of 20, focusing on computer animation and graphic design. He earned his bachelor’s degree in under three years with a 3.4 GPA, showcasing both discipline and dedication to his craft.
Following graduation, he gained experience working with news stations, art galleries, and graphic design firms before transitioning into a successful freelance career. Over the next decade, he specialized in web and graphic design, building strong relationships with clients and fellow creatives.
Transition into Tattooing
Through these connections, Ray developed an interest in tattooing — an art form that allowed him to move beyond digital work and create meaningful, lasting pieces while forming personal connections with clients.
At 29, he began his tattoo apprenticeship, applying his background in design and animation to quickly refine his skills and develop a distinctive approach to custom tattoo work.
Building a Legacy
After completing his apprenticeship, Ray relocated to Virginia, where he helped manage a tattoo studio before opening his own studio in Salem, Virginia, in 2014. After more than a decade of success, he expanded by opening a second location in Holly Ridge, North Carolina, in 2023.
Throughout his career, Ray has mentored and apprenticed multiple artists, many of whom have gone on to build successful careers of their own. Today, he leads a team of talented artists and piercers, continuing to grow both studios while fostering creativity and collaboration.
Looking Ahead
With a focus on continued growth and excellence, Ray remains committed to expanding his business while delivering high-quality artistry and exceptional client experiences. The pursuit of knowledge and progress continues to drive his vision for the future.
